CPAP Therapy

The most successful treatment for severe sleep apnea is Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) therapy. The patient is respirated with an oxygen mask during the entire night. The decision to use this form of therapy is usually taken following a detailed examination in a sleep laboratory. As successful as the use of CPAP has been, the burden involved for patients and their partners is quite high.

It is difficult to get used to CPAP respiratory device as it needs electricity, requires a complex cabling and is loud and cumbersome. Thus, the CPAP treatment is only recommended in severe cases.
