S II plus Positioner acc. to Prof. Sander

The protrusion appliance S II, a special type of the double plate for mandibular advancement, is also used in orthodontic therapy. To custom-make, a construction bite is necessary.

The two elements of the positioner are separately attached to the lower and upper jaw respectively. The less the angle with which the patient is able to close his/her mouth, the more the lower jaw moves forward. When the S II is worn at night, approximately 30 minutes are needed in the morning for biting and chewing exercises to ‘regain the normal jaw position. Therefore a positioner, an elastic device, is used.
