Cleansing of the splints

Please take your time to read the instructions for cleansing and care. If maintained properly you will be able to enjoy your splint for a long time.

The splint must be cleaned before and after use. If the splint is not cleaned regularly bacteria and leftovers will affect the splint material over time. This will cause the splint material to change it's color, and it might also start to smell.

Food and drinks with intensive color, like red wine, tea and coffee, will change the material's color. The soft inner part of the splint will change it's color more quickly than the hard part.

Cleansing before use

Before you go to sleep with your splint, you should clean the splint with cold water, toothbrush and toothpaste. You should make sure to clean the splint on the inside. This will remove the biofilm from the previous cleaning bath. The splint should be applied only after you have cleaned and rinsed your tooth.

Cleansing after use

After use the slpint should be placed in a glass of water with a cleaning tablet. Citric acid can be used as well. Agressive chemical agents should not be used, as they will damage the synthetic material of the splint and change it's color.

Hot water must only be used for splints made from SupraSoft SupraSoft. Splints from other materials must be cleaned using cold water. Alcohol or alcoholic agents must not be used for cleansing, as they will damage the material directly.

Sometimes corrosion can appear in the gap between the screws and the splint. The surface of the screws will slightly change it's color to red, grey, black or green. This is a natural and harmless aging process. This color change can be avoided with the TAP®-T device TAP®-T device - "T" stands for titanium with a high bio-compatibility and will not suffer from corrosion.
